Our Investment Management Team

  • Mark Rushton

    Mark joined City Asset Management in 2021 as Head of Investment Management. He brings a wealth of experience to our leadership team, with a career in finance that spans more than 35 years. This includes senior roles at UBS, Cazenove, BNP Paribas and Walker Crips Investment Management (as CIO and CEO). Mark also holds various Director and Trustee positions and is a member of the Radley College Council. Still, his biggest achievement to date has been forming a band, “Eddy and the Errors”, as an appalling lead guitarist. In his spare time, Mark enjoys both real and lawn tennis, and carpentry.

  • David Willcox

    David has worked at City Asset Management for over 15 years, where he is Investment Director. His role is to manage clients’ portfolios, provide input into investment processes and work with the financial planning team. He also runs the AIM portfolio service and provides input on real estate investments. David has always enjoyed helping our clients secure their financial futures and gets a strong sense of satisfaction in letting clients know they can achieve their goals. Outside of the office, David enjoys hill walking, cycling and martial arts.

  • Matt Groom

    Matt joined City Asset Management in 2014.  As an Investment Director, he manages portfolios for private clients, their trusts and pensions. He also co-manages the AIM Portfolio Service and our Direct Equity Portfolio process.  He enjoys trying to understand how economies and corporates operate and using this knowledge to build portfolios that provide the outcomes our clients need. Matt is a Chartered Wealth Manager and has over 30 years’ experience in portfolio management, including as Head of Private Clients (London & South East) for Sanlam Private Investments. In his spare time, Matt likes cooking (and eating), fishing and tending the veg patch.

  • James Calder

    James joined City Asset Management in 2009 and is our Chief Investment Officer, where he is responsible for managing the investment process and chairing the asset allocation, portfolio construction and fund selection committees. He is also a member of the Executive Committee . He has over 25 years’ experience, including roles at Gartmore, BestInvest and Baring Asset Management, and specialises in multi-asset real return investing. Throughout his career he has been a key mentor for younger analysts and enjoys watching them progress on to their own successful careers. In his spare time, James enjoys clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking and spending time with his family.

  • Denise Collins

    Denise is a Chartered Wealth Manager who focuses on portfolio management for individuals, family groups and their associated trusts and pensions. She prides herself on helping her clients reach their financial goals and building long term relationships. Denise joined City Asset Management in 2008 and has over 15 years’ industry experience. In that time, she’s appeared on both the ‘Citywire top 30 under 30’ and ‘PAM Insight top 40 under 40’ lists. Outside of work, Denise enjoys running (and not just after her children), spinning and spending time with friends and family.

  • Johnathon Rivers

    Johnathon joined City Asset Management as Investment Manager in 2021. He is responsible for portfolio construction and management, building relationships with clients and business development. He endeavours to provide value and an exceptional standard of service to each of his clients. Johnathon has over 20 years’ industry experience, including time spent as an accountant and financial adviser. True to his name, Johnathon has an affinity with water, having studied marine biology at university, working as manager at a Scottish salmon farm, volunteering at beach clean ups in Hampshire and, most impressively, sailing across the Atlantic!

  • Mike Fitzhugh

    As Investment Director, Mike’s role is to invest clients’ assets to give a long-term outcome appropriate to their needs. He became a member of the board in 2013. He brings almost 40 years’ experience to the team, having worked in several international banks and as Investment Director at Thornhill immediately before joining us in 2010. Even as an investment veteran, Mike still enjoys the challenge of markets and developing long-standing relationships with City Asset Management clients. His proudest achievement to date is raising a wonderful family and when they are not keeping him busy, he enjoys gardening, cycling and classic car restoration in his spare time.

  • Jason Armstrong-Butler

    Jason joined City Asset Management in 2022 as an investment manager and is one of the founding members of our Cambridge team. Following an initial career as a patent attorney, he began his investment career in 2007 and has since built a well-established expertise in managing a wide range of portfolios for individuals, trusts and charities. As well as the satisfaction of building strong long-term client relationships, Jason enjoys the analytical and psychological challenge of the financial markets. Prior to joining CAM, Jason spent six years at NW Brown, ultimately as Chief Investment Officer, and then a further two years as Investment Management Director when NW Brown was taken over by Brown Shipley. He holds a master’s degree in Wealth Management and is a Chartered Fellow of CISI. Outside the office, Jason enjoys racket sports and outdoor pursuits with his wife and two children.

  • James Ross-Russell

    James joined City Asset Management from Brown Shipley in 2022, bringing a decade of experience managing portfolios for individuals, trusts, charities and pensions. He is one of the founding members of our Cambridge team and enjoys working alongside financial planning to help his clients navigate the financial world. James is a Chartered Fellow of CISI and has previously contributed investment commentary to the local Cambridge press. He enjoys being active in his spare time, partaking in activities from golf and football, to walking with his fiancé, Megan and dog, Scout.

  • Stephen Sint Nicolaas

    Stephen joined CAM in 2022 as an Investment Management Research Trainee, where he supports the investment managers and research team. He enjoys the challenge of helping clients achieve their financial goals and navigate through the different stages of their lives. Prior to joining CAM, Stephen worked as an Economist for the Department of Work and Pensions and recently graduated from the University of Bath. In his spare time he volunteers at his local church, enjoys gaming and a variety of sports – both watching (he supports Ajax) and participating.

  • Tom Waters

    Tom is an Investment Manager, working within the investment management team and contributing to the management of client portfolios as well as research for the AIM and DEP mandates. He enjoys the intellectual challenge of working at City Asset Management, and the reward of contributing to a service that helps protect clients’ wealth through retirement. Tom has achieved his Investment Management Certificate and is also a CFA Charterholder. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, open water swimming and running, and rather impressively completed the Vichy Ironman 70.3 in 2019.

  • Ross McKnight

    Ross McKnight

    Ross joined CAM in 2024 and is a Senior Investment Analyst. He is involved in multi-asset research and is a member of our asset allocation committee. Ross previously worked as a Research Analyst at WH Ireland and is a CFA Charterholder. One of his biggest career highlights to date was being named in Citywire’s “30 Under 30” to watch. Ross is also a member of the Ireland Funds Great Britain Young Leaders Society, which is a philanthropic network that supports worthy causes in Ireland and around the world. Outside of work, he also enjoys reading and cooking, and is a keen sportsman, playing both cricket and football in his spare time.

  • Charlie Megan

    Charlie is an Investment Manager, responsible for the oversight of CAM’s dealing and custody. He has worked at City Asset Management since 2019, having previously worked as a Fund Accountant at U.S. Bank and also as a Middle Office Analyst. Charlie has achieved the PCIAM (Private Client Investment Advice Management) and in his spare time enjoys playing football, reading and cooking.

  • Labeat Dushi

    Labeat is an Assistant Investment Manager, who is responsible for day-to-day portfolio management and provides general support to the wider investment team. He enjoys helping CAM’s clients manage the ever-changing challenges of financial markets to achieve their goals. Labeat has worked at CAM for over three years, having joined as part of our Bath University student program in 2021. Outside of work, Labeat enjoys rugby, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and reading.

  • Joe Kanerick

    Joe Kanerick

    Joe is a Trainee Investment Analyst, and joins CAM on a year-long internship as part of our ongoing relationship with Bath university. He is applying his learning from his Economics BSc to provide asset allocation and fund recommendations, and assisting our Investment Managers with administrative tasks. Outside of work, Joe enjoys working with children and helping them develop through sports, arts and education. He recently spent a summer in Athens volunteering as a Sports and Arts coach at a refugee camp for children.

  • Jack Keegan

    Jack Keegan

    Jack joined City Asset Management in 2021 and started working in client services before moving to the investment team. Jack has achieved his Investment Management Certificate and he supports Johnathon Rivers as a Trainee Investment Manager with the day to day portfolio management responsibilities and general support to the wider investment team. Although his most impressive achievement to-date is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Outside of work, Jack enjoys anything sports related, but particularly going to watch Watford FC lose on a Saturday afternoon!

  • Max West

    Max joined CAM as a Research Investment Analyst in 2024, having graduated from the University of Leeds with a BSc and MSc in Economics. He works with the research team and provides analysis to inform CAM’s investment decisions across asset classes. Max is currently studying towards his Investment Management Certificate, but also enjoys a variety of sports in his spare time. He is particularly passionate about football, volunteering as Club Treasurer for his Sunday League football team and going to watch Arsenal at every opportunity.
